Jewelry Care

All our pieces are handmade and therefore should be use and treated with care.

Gold Plating

What is gold plating?

Gold plating is when a layer of gold is placed on to coat the surface of another metal. Gold plated jewelry is not 100% solid gold, so extra care should be taken to maximize its duration.

All gold plated jewerly can tarnish over time and wear.

Tarnish is the result of a chemical reaction with oxygen or sulfur particles in the air these is obviously a fact of life.

So please:

-Avoid contact with any chemical product, perfumes, soaps, creams, etc.

-Remove your jewelry before participating in activities that will cause you to sweat a lot.

-This pertains to sweat as well, so make sure you remove your gold plated  jewelry when you exercise , clean or do any heavy lifting. Especially if you are going for a swim or doing any water related activities.

-Remove jewelry if you will be bringing it into contact with something hard.

-Tarnishing may also be caused by the skin’s natural pH levels.

-Store your plated jewelry where it won’t rub against other hard substances (a soft bag, one per piece of jewelry).

-Do not store gold plating items with silver or silver plating together. The different metals will cause each other to tarnish, fade and/or turn colors. Have different storage places for different colors of metals. Store in a dry area.

You can clean your gold plated  jewelry  with a very soft cloth to remove dust or dirt. Gently rubbing the surface of your gold plated jewelry using a soft jewelry cloth, helps restore shine.

The length of time the plating will last depends on various factors such as how often the product is worn. An item worn regularly will wear off much faster as it comes into contact with skin and objects throughout the day.

Silver

Sterling silver can tarnish with time and wear. Tarnish is the result of a chemical reaction with oxygen or sulfur particles in the air these is obviously a fact of life. Tarnished silver will turn a darkish grey-black colour and is most easily removed when it first becomes visible.

 So please:

-Avoid contact with chemicals, perfume, hairspray and deodorant, or any chemical product.

- Do not swim or shower with your silver jewellery.

-The most effective way to clean sterling silver is with warm water and mild bar soap. (Liquid soap is likely to leave a film on your jewelry, resulting in a dull finish.)Then gently rub the jewels with a silver polishing cloth several times

-Sterling Silver jewerly best store is somewhere cool, dark and moisture free to live.

- Store your jewellery in an airtight jewellery box or even in little airtight ziplock bags or soft pouches and always separately as they can scratch each other.
